Speedy health intervention to help you enter work, remain at work or to return to work safely and positively and to liaise effectively, collaboratively and positively with all key stakeholders in the attendance management process.

One of the roles of the Occupational Health Service is to advise both employees and their managers in relation to the impact of work on employees' health and welfare, and effects of employees' health on their ability to perform their work satisfactorily.

University employees who have not been referred by their School/Unit but who would like advice on a health matter that affects work are encouraged to self-refer to Occupational Health.

Ill-health retiral: If you have a member of staff seeking IHR and they are a member of a University pension scheme (or any pension plan which has an ill-health retiral scheme) the manager WILL seek advice from HR, and in consultation with the staff member will make a referral to OHS for an assessment to be made of their eligibility for ill-health retiral on medical grounds. Guidance on Ill-Health Retiral can be found in Appendix IV of the relevant policy (link below)

Ill Health or Accident Reporting

The University has a duty under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, to protect University employees' health against hazards in the workplace.
