Radiation Safety for Users of Gamma Irradiators

This short online training course is aimed at all users of Gamma Irradiators at the University of Edinburgh and how to work safely with such equipment.

No prior ionising radiation safety knowledge is required as a prerequisite for this course. A short assessment is included at the end of the course which you must complete to demonstrate competency. The pass mark is 80%.

The information provided in the course must be supplemented by local training and instruction in practical procedures in the department before a worker begins their work with gamma irradiators.

This training should be refreshed at regular intervals which is assumed to be every 3-5 years. This course is suitable for use as refresher training and replaces the old arrangements where those working with gamma irradiators undertook the Introduction, Regulation and Module B sections of the University’s Basic Course in Radiation Protection in Research & Teaching. For clarity, users of gamma irradiators should complete this course and NOT the University’s Basic Course in Radiation Protection in Research and Teaching.
