Investigation of alerts

From 1 July 2023, the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service will stop attending Automatic Fire Alarm call outs to commercial business and workplace premises (such as factories, offices, shops and leisure facilities) unless a fire has been confirmed. From that date,  Fire Operations Control will be asking anyone who reports a fire alarm (including alarm receiving centres) to check whether there is an actual fire, or signs of fire, before sending the nearest response. This change follows their public consultation in 2021.

This training is designed for Security Officers, Community Support Officers, and any other nominated persons, who are responsible for responding to a building 'in alert' and investigating the nature of the alarm activation. The general aims and objectives covered are;

• Investigation of a fire alert procedure;
• How and when to call the SFRS;
• When not to call the SFRS;
• Relevant elements of building construction; designed to create safe (protected) areas;
• Guidance on how to conduct an investigation safely and confidently

Evacuation lift training 

This training is designed for Security Officers and Community Support Officers, who are responsible for responding to buildings 'in alert' and, when required, facilitating all requests for assistance using the evacuation lifts. The general aims and objectives covered are;

• Construction and safety measures for Evacuation lifts;
• Relevant elements of building construction; designed to create safe (protected) areas;
• Operation of evacuation lift;
• Evacuation lift procedure;
• Emergency Voice Communication System (EVCS).

Emergency response training 

This training is designed for Security Officers and Community Support Officers, who are responsible for responding to buildings 'in alert' and, when required, facilitating all requests for assistance to evacuate. The general aims and objectives covered are;

• The Evacuation Chair;
• Relevant elements of building construction; designed to create safe (protected) areas;
• Operation of evacuation chairs;
• Evacuation chair procedure;
• Emergency Voice Communication System (EVCS).
