The University has Corporate Membership of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents promote safety and the prevention of accidents at work, at leisure, on the road, in the home and through safety education. They are a registered charity and have been at the heart of accident prevention in the UK and around the world for more than 90 years.

Universities Health and Safety Association

The University is a long standing member of the Universities Health and Safety Association.

USHA's mission is to ensure the wellbeing of university staff, students and visitors through the promotion of health and safety in higher education.

The Royal Society for Public Health

The Royal Society for Public Health is an independent charity formed in October 2008 with the merger of the Royal Society of Health and the Royal Institute of Public Health.

Scottish Universities Safety Advisers Group

The Department is a long standing member of SUSAG. This group meets twice per year to discuss safety and health issues affecting Scottish Universities.

Fire Protection Association

The Fire Protection Association (FPA) is the UK's national fire safety organisation and it works to identify and draw attention to the dangers of fire and the means by which their potential for loss is kept to a minimum.

Association of University Radiation Protection Officers

The Association was founded in 1962. It is a professional organization whose members come mainly from universities and similar establishments involved in the training of undergraduates and graduates in the fields of science, engineering and medicine.

Institution of Occupational Safety and Health

The Professional members of staff in the Health and Safety Department are members of IOSH (if appropriate) at various levels - Chartered Fellow, Chartered Member, Graduate Member and Member. Please see individual Staff Profiles for more detail.

IOSH is the world's biggest professional health and safety organisation. They set standards, and support, develop and connect their members with resources, guidance, events and training. They are the voice of the profession, and campaign on issues that affect millions of working people.

Society of Biology

The Society of Biology is a single unified voice for biology: advising Government and influencing policy; advancing education and professional development; supporting our members, and engaging and encouraging public interest in the life sciences.

Institute of Safety in Research and Technology

ISTR members work in universities, research councils, public and private research institutes, and commercial research and high technology companies.

European Biosafety Association

European Biosafety Association was founded in June 1996. It is a not for profit organisation which aims to provide a forum for its members to discuss and debate issues of concern and to represent those working in the field of biosafety and associated activities.

British Occupational Hygiene Society

BOHS is both a learned society, publishing the world-renowned, scientific, peer-reviewed journal, Annals of Occupational Hygiene, and the only professional society representing qualified occupational hygienists in the UK.

University Chemical Safety Forum

The University Chemical Safety Forum is a professional group of health and safety practitioners working in the higher education sector who advise on working with chemicals and hazardous materials.

The Society for Radiological Protection

The Society for Radiological Protection promotes the science and art of radiation protection, disseminates knowledge and support relevant education and promotes high professional standards to the public benefit.

The Royal College of Nursing

The Royal College of Nursing is the largest professional union for nursing in the UK, representing around 400,000 nurses, health care support workers and nursing students, both in the NHS and the private sector.

Nursing and Midwifery Council

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is the nursing and midwifery regulator for England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Islands. The NMC exists to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the public.

Faculty of Occupational Medicine

The Faculty was established in 1978 to provide a professional and academic body empowered to develop and maintain high standards of training, competence and professional integrity in occupational medicine.
